About

Hi! Welcome to Office Polish.

Location: Scottsdale, AZ

What inspired you to start your blog?
I've always loved fashion. When I was little I wanted to work in the fashion industry and I  can remember spending hours watching runway shows on the Fashion TV channel. Today, I don't work in fashion but friends often ask me to help them put looks together. I can also often be found perusing my favorite fashion blogs to keep up with the latest trends and to find ways to make them work for me. One thing I have noticed is that very few blogs feature clothes that can be worn to work. For me, as a working girl in the corporate world, I spend the bulk of my time at work and as a result most of what I shop for and buy are clothes I can wear to work. I created Office Polish to offer outfit inspiration for those of us who do have a 9-5. I also wanted a space where I could share career tips and tricks I have learned along the way to help women navigate and succeed in their workplace.

What is your goal for Office Polish?
Let me just say that I love my day job. For me, Office Polish is a creative outlet where I can share with others outfit inspiration and career advice so that all of us can put our best face forward and achieve our own respective goals, whatever they may be. I don't want this to be a blog about pretty pictures and excessive consumerism. I want this to be a blog where women can come together to support one another on our journey.

What is your background?
I have been in and worked in many different types of environments from an Ivy League Education to tech startups to conservative government and corporate jobs. Each place where I have studied or worked has taught me something about myself and helped to mold me into who I am today.

I graduated from the University of Arizona in 2010 after completing an internship with the Arizona House of Representatives. From there, I matriculated to the University of Pennsylvania for my graduate studies. While at Penn I held internships at a major research firm in Philadelphia and I was also an intern at Business Insider in NYC. After graduation I worked for a successful tech startup and then I accepted a position with a large financial services firm in Scottsdale, AZ where I currently work.

What piece of advice would you give someone trying to start their career or establish themselves in their career?
If you don't know what you want to do with your life, don't worry. That will come in time. Just get on a path and see where it takes you and always put in your best effort. You never know what opportunities lie ahead. If you have already begun your career, become the constant professional; look and act the part. Know your industry, your company, your department, and your team. Stay above the fray, stay positive, stay engaged, and of course, stay polished.  If you can't do those things find another job.

How would you describe your style?
I would describe my style as feminine preppy with a hint of edge. I love dresses and suits in bold colors like fuchsia or eggplant. I always look for sweaters with interesting details or asymmetrical shirts to spice things up. I'm also a big fan of power flats that are comfortable and chic.

What role do you think fashion plays in the workplace?
In the workplace I don't think its about fashion, I think its about polish. The latest trends are usually really hard to pull off or flat out inappropriate for the workplace (fringe anyone?). I think 9-5 fashion is really about fit and texture and fabric and pulling together a look that works for your shape and office environment. That looks different for all of us but the common theme is making the effort to know what works for you and to find quality pieces that will last.

Thank you so much for stopping by!

Alexandra
